State of the Phlock 2012 AKA the 2011 year in review
“…..what have we done, another year over, a new one just begun…” John Lennon
It is that time of year to reflect back on what the Phlock accomplished in 2012 while having a bunch of Phun with our Parrot Head Phamily.
We collected items each month such as food for St. Gregory’s Emergency Food Pantry, pajamas and books for the NJ Pajama Program, gently used shoes for Soles4Soles. Our all year collection was pounds of pop tops for Ronald McDonald House. Coasties donated a garage full of warm winter wear for the homeless in Lakewood Tent City camp. Recycled card fronts went to St. Jude’s Ranch for Children. We donated several carloads of items and foods for our four legged friends to Jersey Shore Animal shelter and our marine mammal friends at the Marine Mammal Stranding Center. An additional donation of $500.00 went to MMSC help purchase a manatee net. We honored our service men, women, and families with donations of cash, personal items and toys to the Wounded Warrior Project, the US Marines Toys for Tots and Adopt-A Platoon. In conjunction with Clean Ocean Action, we cleaned the beach in the Spring and Fall, and collected bags of trash and recyclables. We walked and raised funds for the Arc of Ocean County ($1415.00), Brick Relay for Life ($1500.00), and the American Cancer Making Strides against Breast Cancer ($3000.00). As a result our two major fundraisers, we donated $6525.00 to Camp Fatima from our Mardi Gras and $7000.00 to MSA from our Feeding Frenzy.
On a sad note, we made memorial donations in honor of members’ family to New Hope Foundation, Associated Humane Society, Wm. Patterson University Scholarship, David A Luce Scholarship Fund and the Brielle Fire Department.
We sponsored other community events as MCPAD PKU, Eakfest for Cystic Fibrosis and Trop Rock Fest for New Hope Foundation.
Coastal Jersey Parrot Head Club Members raised a total of $21,011.77 with 1669 man-hours!
Thank you Phlock for all for your efforts, time, and love!
